Gimont is home to the Chevalets Despiau musical instrument store. This family-run business makes top-quality bridges for all bowed string instruments, including violins, violas, cellos, double basses, violas da gamba and violas d'amore. Despiau bridges are recognized and sought after by luthiers and musicians the world over. The company carefully selects three-century-old maple from the forests of Bosnia-Herzegovina for the manufacture of its bridges. Wood design and cutting are key steps in the manufacturing process. Chevalets Despiau is also involved in humanitarian actions, providing free bridges to equip the instruments of young musicians in disadvantaged areas.
