THE CHAPEL OF SAINT CATHERINE

An emblematic chapel with a remarkable façade, featuring three adjoining bays that bear witness to Romanesque architecture.
Built in the early 13th century, the Sainte-Catherine chapel is one of the most emblematic chapels on the site of the Notre-Dame de Villers-Bettnach abbey. The other, known as Les Humbles, is smaller and more discreet. Let's return to Sainte-Catherine. Its unusual location (on the upper floor of one of the farmyard buildings) remains unexplained. The building's remarkably well-preserved facade features a set of three adjoining bays, with columns and capitals. This Cistercian triplet is a rich testimony to Romanesque architecture. A place of worship for the village's inhabitants in the 17th century, the chapel is now a beautifully appointed private inn. Nevertheless, it remains a listed building, with 15th-century paintings inside.
