Caunes-Minervois is the red marble capital of the world, designed to be the world's tallest tower
This is the land of the famous incarnat marble, which comes in shades of pale pink to blood-red, veined with black or white. Caunes Minervois is the world capital of this marble, which adorns Versailles, the Paris Opera House, St. Peter's in Rome, the Great Mosque in Cordoba... A prestige that is still very much in vogue: Saudi Arabia's Prince Al-Whalid Ben Talal chose it for the Tower of Jeddah, which is set to become the world's tallest tower. The Carrière de Marbre du Roy is a 2h30 walk starting from the Esplanade de l'Europe parking lot.
