This building is the third church since the foundation of the abbey by Saint Nivard in 650

Tame the heights of Hautvillers to discover this charming heritage. Third church since the foundation of the abbey by Saint Nivard in 650, this one was built in 1518 by Dom Roger. From the previous Romanesque church, the lower part of the western façade with the portal remains. The high altar was built under the direction of Dom Pérignon in 1691. In front of the choir, two tombstones, those of Dom Pérignon and Dom Ruinart. True cradle of champagne, it is said that Dom Pérignon would have discovered the methods of wine making in this place.

c'est une belle église, remaniée au cours des âges, disposant d'un mobilier riche, dont des orgues
Mais on retient surtout son site dominant les vignes , et bien sûr la tombe du célèbre Dom Pérignon . C'est lui qui fait déplacer les visiteurs venant parfois de très loin pour une photo

Dans l'église de trouve le tombeau de dom Pérignon, c est la principale raison pour laquelle elle est célèbre, mais elle est en dehors de cela vraiment très jolie, et dans un cadre magnifique !

Certes l'église est plutôt jolie, mais l'intérêt se porte surtout sur le village. Il faut prendre le temps de se perdre dans cet authentique et magnifique village champenois situé en hauteur. Les points de vue sur le vignoble sont superbes.
