This building is the only French church built entirely of slag bricks

This is the only French church built entirely of slag bricks, white and grey, all of identical shape... In the midst of industrial prosperity, Emile Giros, mayor of Saint-Dizier and director of the Compagnie des forges de Champagnes, financed the construction of this church to offer the iron and cast iron workers a place of worship. Saint-Charles was therefore built in 1895. Its construction was quick and inexpensive because of its original material: a rare material made from foundry slag.
