Did you know? The Gothic St. Croix Cathedral, Roman of Gothic type, is one of the most recent in France. Built on another cathedral destroyed by the Huguenots during the wars of Religion, it is also France's fifth highest cathedral, thanks to its 114-metre arrow. Henri IV decided his reconstruction to restore peace between Catholics and Protestants. Literary anecdote, François Rabelais refers to it in his famous Gargantua, when the giant swallows a bronze pill (the golden ball at the top of the arrow) to heal. It has been classified as a historic monument since 1862.
