PANIGYRIA D'AOÛT

August is the peak of religious festivities in the North Aegean islands, not only because of the veneration of the Virgin Mary on August 15, but also for a series of other local saints. The most famous island for its panigyria is undoubtedly Ikaria: Greek tourists go there specifically to celebrate in August. There are celebrations every other day, so much so that one would get lost without the help of the municipality, which publishes information throughout the month. The biggest celebration is undoubtedly the one held over two days in Lagada, on August 15.
