DORMITION DE LA VIERGE

The Dormition of the Virgin celebrates, among the Orthodox, what the Catholics call the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It is one of the most important feasts in the religious calendar, but also in the secular calendar since August 15 launches the Greek summer vacations. Each island promises its share of festivities, with great panigyria(feasts, music, traditional dances) organized where a church or a monastery is dedicated to the Virgin, that is to say almost everywhere. All the families meet for this great celebration.
