Located in the north of Spain, the region of Asturias is surrounded by Cantabria to the east, Castilla y León to the south and Galicia to the west. It is a region with a temperate and humid climate, with both a green mountainous landscape and a maritime landscape. With an area of 10,604 km², the Asturian territory has more than one million inhabitants, more than half of whom live in Gijón and the capital, Oviedo. The peculiarity of this autonomous community is that it is a principality where the title of Prince or Princess of Asturias is given to the descendant of the King of Spain, direct heir of the crown.
