UNION DES FAMILLES MUSULMANES

A destination for Muslim families, their relatives or anyone interested in the living heritage of the Maghreb countries, this cultural centre was established in 1996. The only one in France to benefit from the approval of the association of family associations, which informs on its secular and apolitical side. The UNION is carried by active members, all sharing the same intent: show a festive, tolerant face, curious of the arts in all its forms until the culinary art. Knowledge, learning of Arabic languages, discoveries of handwritten writings (courses in calligraphy, graphic art), music, dances, sport… In short, everything that makes the Arab world greatness today. A beautiful annual showcase, the Eid Festival in October brings together all its positive impulses in many events, often the fruit of the workshops. Present in Marseilles, the Jewish community is particularly active in the 6 th arrondissement. In the Castellane area, around the streets Rostand, Dragon, Saint-Suffren, it has private schools, snacks, restaurants, small cafes, tea rooms. True neighborhood life, there are hairdressers, grocery stores, supermarkets… In the middle of all these nearby shops, the Jewish cultural centre, which has been in existence since 1964, is an obligation for all those who want to go further. Activities are diverse and varied: seminars on Jewish history and thought, exhibitions, concert, cinema… For regular activities, Hebrew courses (oulpanim) are very serious. There is even a module for the récalcitrants, for those who really have difficulty with the language. The cultural centre of Carpentras does not lack originality. Following the legacy of Jean Bernard (1669) and Canon Nepton (1672), the city acquires a large bourgeois house to «lock, maintain and educate disadvantaged children». After being a girls'school until 1924, it now houses the cultural centre and the municipal music and dance school approved. It is also a place of theatre with theatre.
