The Dormition is celebrated all over the country, especially in churches and monasteries dedicated to the Virgin.

The Dormition of the Virgin celebrates, among the Orthodox, what the Catholics call the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It is one of the most important feasts in the Orthodox religious calendar, but also in the secular calendar, since August 15 is the beginning of the Greek summer vacations. Each region promises its own festivities, with great panigyri (feasts, music, traditional dances) organized wherever a church or a monastery is dedicated to the Virgin, that is to say almost everywhere. All the families meet for this great celebration.
