Christmas is above all a delicious occasion to share delicacies such as cakes and.

Although less important than Easter, Christmas is celebrated in Greece. As a sign of westernization in this eastern land, Christmas trees, decorations and gifts have made their appearance in Greek homes. Traditionally, however, it is rather St. Basil who plays Santa Claus on the evening of 31 December. Christmas is the occasion to share delicacies such as melomakarona cakes, in the shape of eggs flavoured with honey and olive oil, and kourabiedes , almond shortbread sprinkled with icing sugar.
