This holiday commemorates October 28, 1940, when General Metaxas answered ("No") to Mussolini's Italian troops.
The Day of No is the national holiday in honor of the resistance against the Italian fascists in 1940. On this occasion, military and student parades are organized in Athens. This celebration recalls an episode of the Second World War: the dictator Metaxás assumed the role of national hero by refusing Mussolini's ultimatum on October 28, 1940 ("Day of No"). After a fierce resistance against the Italians, Greece was invaded by Nazi Germany in April 1941. October 28 is a public holiday throughout Greece.
