HUNGRY GHOSTS FESTIVAL (FÊTE DES FANTÔMES AFFAMÉS)

Traditionally, during the ^7th Chinese lunar month, spirits held in the underworld because they are not worshipped, or cannot find peace due to violent death or misconduct, are released to earth. These "orphaned spirits and wild ghosts" are offered comforting meals and ceremonies for their deliverance. Ritual night banquets(pudus) are held in front of the temples on the evening of the ^15th day.
