INDEPENDENCE DAY

On February 22nd, the island of Saint Lucia celebrates its independance from 1979 with a major military parade in Castries. Each year, a different venue is chosen with traditional exhibitions, speeches from leading figures, music and dance. On that day and all along the month of February, national flags can be seen hanging from vehicules to show the people patriotism. It is also the time for Miss Independance pageant and awarding outstanding Saint Lucians in different fields.
