HUMBLE ADMINISTRATOR'S GARDEN

Parks and gardens
5/5
1 review

This garden, the most famous of the top Yangtze region, was developed in 1506. At that time, Wang Xianchen, a state official accused of corruption, decided to withdraw from public affairs by returning to Suzhou, his hometown. He then decided to build Zhuozheng Yuan, a 5 ha set. The term "petty administrator" or "the politics of the modest" is drawn from the classic Jin poem. He mentioned that the "garden is the work of a modest man". The garden is divided into three parts: to the east, the main building, Orchid and Snow (Lan Xue Tang), contains a lacquered wood screen on which the garden plan is engraved. By accessing the central part, the Northern Temple pagoda appears. The central part is the most harmonious and the best preserved of the three: the Distant Perfume Room (Yuanxiang Tang), with the largely pierced walls of bays offers an overview. The western part of the garden, separated from the whole under the Qing, became the property of a wealthy trader. He rajouta a large number of buildings. The Mandarins Hall was the central building. The owner amused his guests by inviting Suzhou opera troops.

The garden is a UNESCO World Heritage SITE.

ZHU FAMILY GARDENS

After the temple of Confucius, this is Jianshui's second main attraction. The residence was built by Zhu Weiqing and his brothers, the 31 st year of the Emperor Guangxu's dynasty under the Qing dynasty (late nineteenth century). The ensemble covers nearly 2 ha and consists of flags of different sizes, gardens and kiosks… Each flag embodies the typical Jianshui architecture. Even though the Zhu family gardens suffered some degradation during the Cultural Revolution, they retain all their authenticity. The last flag at the bottom of the garden has a very nice exhibition of photographs that tell the extraordinary story of the Zhu family.

Originally from the Hunan province, the Zhu family has been enriched by industry and trade by opening shops in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hong Kong. The Zhu were great notable notables in southern Yunnan. Both brothers, Zhu Chengzhang and Zhu Chengzao, purchased with their children several hectares in the city of Jianshui, where they began to build their residence. It took them thirty years to complete it completely. The Zhu brothers subsequently decided to invest in mines. In a few years, they became the most famous capitalists in the mining industry in southern China and their wealth continued to grow.

From 1903, the glorious fate of the Zhu family began to fail. In 1903, their mines were confiscated, and a decade later the two brothers were forced to flee, their shops being looted by bandits. In 1916, their property was seized because of their support to General Yuan Shikai. The city of Jianshui fell into the hands of the army, and the property of the Zhu was confiscated. In 1927, both brothers were imprisoned. The tragic fate of this family generated many polemics. Since 1999, the Zhu family gardens are open to visit: a walk that will plunge you into China's history and make you discover one of the country's best preserved traditional residences.

Here are 10 hectares of green in the middle of the center. Inaugurated in 1991, the facilities include a small plastic centre (the HK Visual Arts Centre), a greenhouse with a wet tropical forest and a net aviary (the Edward Youde Went, open daily from 9 h to 17 h, free of charge, to see absolutely). At the heart of this tropical vegetation, admire beautiful birds from Southeast Asia and Indonesia. This exciting walk allows you to discover parrots with bright red lights, yellow originating in the Moluccas, and other varieties originating in Borneo. Not far away, we walk in the midst of huge cages that keep gibbons and other monkeys. There are also lovely lemurs who came straight from Madagascar.

ZHONGSHAN PARK

Natural site to discover

Located west of Tian 'anmen, adjacent to the Forbidden City, is Sun Yat-sen Park (or Zhongshan Park). Formerly, under the Jin, space was occupied by the country's Renaissance Temple, which became under the Yuan the Temple of Longevity and Renaissance of the country, and eventually hosted under the Ming's Altar and Moissons (which can always be visited), before ending as a public garden dedicated to Sun's memory. Yat-sen.

It is in this park that it makes its feet tired by a thorough visit to the Imperial Palace, in the shadow of the great cypress… You will cross as many tourists in this case as Chinese walking walking.

The entrance is made by a large pai-lou, a white marble portico decorated with blue ceramics honoring the memory of German Baron Von Ketteler, murdered during the Boxers revolt in 1900. There will be a beautiful calligraphy of the poet Guo Moruo meaning «Defending peace». A stroll along decorative and cyclose rocks will take you to the center of the park, in front of the altar of the altar of the god of the Earth and the Moissons. Another way leads to the altar, a large square terrace with white stone to symbolize the surface of the earth on which the son of heaven reigns. The terrace itself is divided into five parts each symbolizing a cardinal point (and a season) plus the center associated with the emperor. Each party shall be filled with a different color; red for the south (summer), white for the west (autumn), black for the north (winter), and green for east (spring). The center carries the color of the emperor, yellow. The wall wall of the altar is decorated with glazed tiles that echo the same colors harmoniously.

The emperor made sacrifices twice a year: in the spring, for good crops, and in the fall after thanks.

To the north of the altar is the Prières Hall, which is still used for the funeral ceremonies of important members of the party, and, to the north of this hall, the Hallebardes Hall, which served as a surrender for instruments and objects used during the sacrificial ceremonies.

Do not miss to visit the southwestern part of the park where small pavilions will be admired, including a greenhouse that still serves flower exhibitions and a small lake with its island.
