This festival has its origins in the ancient celebrations of the arrival of spring, on the day of the equinox or between 20 and 22 March. It has been celebrated for 3,000 years by many communities in Eurasian countries but is believed to be of Persian origin. In this language, the word navrus means "new days". In Mongolia, it is the Kazakhs of the west of the country who organize grandiose festivities to celebrate the renewal: contests, traditional games, sports and musical events as well as banquets and feasts are part of the party!
