November 18. The Uzbek flag was adopted shortly after independence. It is celebrated on this day every year.
November 18. The Uzbek flag consists of three horizontal stripes: blue, white and green, separated by two red borders. On the blue stripe, the crescent moon is a symbol of both Islam and the new Republic, and the 12 stars symbolize the twelve months of the year of independence. Blue, which evokes the sky, was also the color of the banner of Tamerlane. White is the color of purity, and green is the color of Islam. The red stripes symbolize blood, which gives life and strength to the body.
