Celebrated all over the country, the festival of Dasain is the biggest festival in Nepal. The festivities last fifteen days and end on the day of the full moon. They celebrate the victory of the goddess Durga over the forces of evil and honour the protective deities of the homes. The homes are cleaned to welcome the goddess who will offer her blessing to the families, seeds are germinated on the family altars and vows are exchanged. Then comes the time of sacrifice. Goats, goats, buffaloes, roosters and ducks are offered to Durga.
