The Kumbh Mela is the largest festival in the world and can attract up to 40 million people in a single day!
Every 12 years, in the month of Magh in the Hindu calendar, the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela takes place, a huge pilgrimage to the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers. Millions of pilgrims flock to take part in a gigantic fair featuring workshops, meals, lectures, preaching and more. There were 120 million participants in 2013! In reality, the Kumbh Mela is held more often, as it rotates between the cities of Nashik, Ujjain and Haridwar. An Ardh Kumbh Mela is held in Prayagraj in the middle of the year. The next one will take place in 2031.
