Discover Saudi Arabia : On screen (Cinema / TV)
When you walk through the doors of the most beautiful cinemas in Riyadh, Jeddah or Taif, it is hard to imagine that cinema has only been allowed in Saudi Arabia for a few years. And yet, between 1983 and the end of the 2000's, the country lived with little or no cinematographic complexes. This is due to an authoritarian interpretation and application of Sharia law, in which going to the cinema had no place. The national production is therefore a sad reflection of this censorship of nearly thirty years, and the number of Saudi films can still be counted on the fingers of one hand. However, works such as Wadjda or The Perfect Candidate by Haifaa al-Mansour are worth seeing, and the revival of Saudi cinema is definitely underway. So don't hesitate to take advantage of the splendor and luxury of the country's brand new cinemas, which are at the cutting edge of technology and offer cinema like nowhere else.
