The $58 million Losail motorcycle racetrack was built in just under a year about 30 km from Doha in the middle of the desert and opened for the 2004 Marlboro Grand Prix of Qatar. It stretches for 118.4 kilometers. In 2008, Qatar celebrated the first Grand Prix with a revolutionary lighting system. The first night race was a great success and is now one of the most spectacular events on the MotoGP calendar. The race counts towards the World Championship.
