EL MERCURIO

Founded in 1900, this Chilean generalist daily is the oldest daily newspaper in Latin America still in circulation and is distributed daily at the national level. It is one of the best known newspapers in Chile and could be compared to the newspaper Le Figaro. It produces 190,000 copies of newspapers per day. In the 1970s, the newspaper was allegedly financed by the CIA to support the coup d'état led by Pinochet. Today, El Mercurio is seen as a newspaper converted to liberalism and has the support of a large readership.
