The Guetna is a festival that welcomes, with open arms, thousands of Mauritanians flocking to the oases. Celebrated throughout the country, in July or August depending on the weather, this event honors the date palms: they deliver their first fresh fruits during a great shared ceremony. We dance, we sing... It is also at this season that the big weddings are organized, the Guetna evoking the joys and pleasures. It is customary to keep the stone of the first date of the year as a good luck charm.
