SÂMBRA OILOR

This transhumance festival is held around mid-May, on the hill of Huta-Certeze, in the Țara Oașului region, near Maramureș. Here, the milk produced by each ewe is measured, before their owners entrust them to the shepherds who will take them out to graze during the fine weather. This measurement is then used as a reference for sharing the production between the two parties. It's also the occasion for a big party, with concerts of traditional music and folk dancing. Similar traditions exist in many other villages.
