Launched in 1997, the Ecrans noirs festival in Yaoundé is a not-to-be-missed event in the world of African cinema. It is held every year at the Palais des Congrès. The festival's organizing association offers writing residencies for scriptwriters. In 2023, the Ecran Noir award for best documentary went to Zampaligre Salam for "Le cab, le cinéma et moi", and the Ecran d'or prize went to director Ellie Foumbi's film "Mon père le diable".
