The Coordination Committee of the International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) was established under the aegis of UNESCO in 1948 as an international non-governmental organization responsible for the coordination of voluntary services worldwide. The CCIVS consists of 140 member organizations, which are present in more than 90 countries. UNESCO maintains close cooperation with the CCIVS and has, inter alia, forged partnerships for many activities in 2001, the International Year of Voluntary Service.
