This year, it's decided: you're going on vacation by car. What a good idea! All the calculations are done, it seems economical and you gain in freedom. The choice of your destination and the dates decided, the accommodation booked, you have planned everything. Everything? However, you need to check, at least, that your vehicle is able to take you to your destination, without worry and comfortably. Here are our 5 tips for a successful checking before you hit the road.

Tip 1: Prepare your itinerary

Gone are the days when you had to unfold a map or find your way with difficulty! The most efficient way is to use an application that you can download on your smartphone or your computer. Take, for example, the Ulys - VINCI Autoroutes app. This app traces your itinerary directly, giving you the toll rates, the location of charging stations for electric vehicles, the number of kilometers to be covered and the estimated travel time.

Tip 2: Check the condition of the car

If you think that your vehicle is not powerful enough or comfortable enough for your trip, given the number of travelers, luggage, length of the route, or that it does not meet safety criteria, renting a vehicle can be a good compromise and allow you to travel with peace of mind. It is always cheaper than airfare or public transportation on site, and more convenient. You can also take advantage of your car vacation project to change your vehicle and opt for the LLD (long term rental) or LOA(rental with option to buy), which makes a new vehicle available to you at a lower cost. See the Agilauto website.

Tip 3: Get a Ulys autoroute electronic toll tag

This formula allows you to save time at the tolls and to follow your consumption. In addition, Ulys is currently offering you a free 12-month subscription for this Ulys Classic electronic toll tag, which will quickly become a popular digital companion. You can also choose the Liber-T vacation badge. A formula that allows you to use your vacation vouchersto pay your tolls with Ulys

Tip 4: Leave well equipped

Of course, your luggage already takes up a lot of space, but a few extra things are enough to greatly improve your trip. First of all, don't forget your triangle and yellow vest for safety, jack and spare tire in case of a flat tire. Remember to take your sunglasses, a neck pillow for the comfort of the passenger if the road is long, small bottles of water that are easy to use, snacks that are easy to nibble on, a spray bottle in case of high heat to keep you hydrated even with the air conditioning. Don't forget to tune in your favorite radio stations, prepare your soundtrack, pack books, games and videos for the kids in the back. And don't forget to stop regularly at highway rest areas (15 minutes every 2 hours) to rest, walk a little and possibly change drivers.

Tip 5: Load your luggage

The main rule is not to overload your luggage. But this is often wishful thinking! In the rear trunk, place the heaviest luggage underneath and especially the luggage you won't need during the trip. Put the lighter stuff on top so that you have access to it if you need it. If you have to load luggage on the roof, it is better to have a roof box and for bikes a bike rack.
