Stay : Mardi Himal 3-day trek

Located in the Annapurna region, Mardi Himal is the mountain seen in the foreground below Machhapuchhre (6,993 meters). Prior to its official inauguration in 2012, the trail was unknown to hikers; yet it is now a frequently visited area that can be completed quickly.

This trip takes you along a ridge trail offering breathtaking views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges to the west. The route begins at Kande, an upscale hilltop community, and then winds through thick oak and rhododendron forest in a moderately undulating area. As you climb the trail northwards, you'll find yourself close to the mountain and far from the urban life below. After several days, crossing the lush forest will lead you to the open area designated as pastureland for indigenous peoples.

Day 1: Arrival, transfer to hotel and welcome dinner

Arrival at Kathmandu airport (1345m.), welcome with flower garlands and transfer to hotel. Afterwards, we usually discuss things to do, and in the late afternoon, we settle the rest of the trekking and shopping arrangements. Then, if there's not much time left, we can go for a short walk, otherwise we go for dinner.

Day 2: After breakfast, flight to Pokhara and drive to Kande and hike to Pothana (1890 m) 4 hours.

Early breakfast and transfer to the domestic terminal at Kathmandu airport for flight to Pokhara. Private road to Kande and start of the trek. The trails gradually climb up to Pothana. Pothana offers beautiful views of many mountains.

Day 3: Trek to forest camp (2600m.) 5 hours

Steps: Pokhara

After breakfast, hike to Deurali, turn right and walk gradually up to the forest camp. The trail crosses the jungle and climbs to the top of a ridge. There's a section just halfway up where the trail descends steeply, then slowly gains height, then returns to the ridge and leads to Forest Camp.

Day 4: Trek to high camp (3,900 m) via low camp (3,050 m) 5 hours

Steps: Pokhara

The trail continues through the jungle, but the trees soon start to get smaller and it feels like we're already at high altitude. After about an hour's walk, we reach an open space with spectacular views of Machhapuchhre and South Annapurna to my left.

Day 5: Hike to base camp (4,500 m), explore and return to high camp. 6 hrs

Steps: Pokhara

It's possible to continue hiking along the ridge for another 4-5 hours to Mardi Himal base camp (4500 m) and back to High Camp in around 4 hours - it's a long day, but there's also a viewpoint halfway up. Overnight at the Lodge.

Day 6: Return to Siding (1700m.) 5 hours.

Steps: Pokhara

After breakfast, descent to Siding.

Day 7: Return to Pokhara. 4 hours

Steps: Pokhara
