Day 1: La Parte Vieja and Mount Urgull

Steps: San Sebastián - Donostia

Stroll through the labyrinth of the old town's narrow streets to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the place. It is here that the city's three main monuments are concentrated: the Basilica of Santa Maria del Coro, the Church of San Vicente and the Museum of San Telmo, housed in a former 16th century Dominican convent. At lunchtime, head for the port of San Sebastian to enjoy grilled fish in a picturesque setting. To digest, nothing beats a walk up Mount Urgull to admire the view of the bay and the old town. The curious can take a stroll to the castle of La Mota, built in the 12th century on the heights of the mountain, to observe the old defensive guns. In the evening, it's up to you to compose your tapas route through the streets of the old town.

Day 2: La Concha and Mount Igueldo

Steps: San Sebastián - Donostia

Stroll through the city centre for a window shopping morning on the shopping avenues. Then, direction Paseo de la Concha to reach Mount Igueldo along the sea (about 30 minutes walk). On the way, you can see the Miramar Palace, former summer residence of Regent Maria Cristina, and make a detour through the pretty university gardens. An old-fashioned funicular railway will take you to the top of Mount Igueldo. An amusement park with an outdated charm sets the backdrop for this timeless viewpoint. Gourmets can enjoy an exceptional dinner at Akelare restaurant, perched on a hillside, where chef Pedro Subijana offers a memorable cuisine.
