Day 1: Arrival in La Paz

Be careful, La Paz is the highest capital of the world, it is located at an altitude of 3,600 meters. If you arrive directly from France to La Paz, you may suffer from mountain sickness. Take time to rest and acclimatize.

Day 2: Rurrenabaque, the gateway to the Amazon

Steps: Rurrenabaque

La Paz - Rurrenabaque. Rurrenabaque is a small town located in the far north of Bolivia on the Beni River. To get there, three solutions are available to you:

By bus: more economical, but also longer and less comfortable. Count at least 20 hours of travel on a dented road, but with a beautiful landscape (first of all by going through the famous "road of death", for those who are afraid of heights, avoid looking too much through the window!).

In a private 4x4: rent a 4x4 or go through an agency that organizes the transfer can help you avoid flying and shorten the trip, but still allow at least 10 hours of travel.

By plane: or more precisely by "airplane", a more expensive solution, but much faster and more comfortable. However, be careful, depending on the weather, departures may be delayed, but the view over the Altiplano, then the Amazonian plains, is superb.

Day 3: By canoe in the Madidi Park

Steps: Parque Nacional Madidi, San Jose De Uchupiamonas

You go to Madidi Park in a motorboat. This park has a reputation as the world's most biodiverse nature reserve. Sleep in an ecolodge run by members of the local and indigenous community of San Jose de Uchupiamonas. Go for hikes in the surroundings to discover this so diverse nature. Once night falls, ask to be taken for a night walk... the jungle wakes up, the sounds are magical and many animals (especially many insects) can only be observed at that time.

Day 4: Exploring Madidi Park

Opt for the services of a local guide, you will not regret it. Our eyes are not used to seeing jungle animals and there are so many legends and things to learn, such as recognizing medicinal plants and their usefulness. It would be a real shame to go that far and explore without a guide to accompany you. You can also swim in the lagoon today.

Day 5: On the banks of the Rio Yacuma

Steps: Santa Rosa Del Yacuma, Rurrenabaque

Return to Rurrenabaque to head towards the Bala camp on the banks of the Rio Yacuma. The banks of the river are also very rich in wildlife, and the fact of having an open space makes it easier to observe. So, when you travel by boat, open your eyes wide: parrots, toucans, tapacarés, marabouts, kingfishers, herons... many birds populate the river! With a little luck, you may also see freshwater turtles, monkeys or caimans.

Day 6: Exploration

Get up at dawn to follow in the footsteps of the Sicuri, the very famous anaconda (!). It can be up to 12 metres long. In the afternoon, go fishing for piranhas. And to end the day, dare to take a bath in the Yacuma River with the bufeos, the curious pink dolphins of the Amazon.

Day 7: Back to La Paz

This Amazonian escapade is already coming to an end. A great day of travel awaits you to reach La Paz. As with the outward journey, you have the choice between the bus, renting a 4x4 or flying.
