A Catholic holiday celebrated with fervor with many processions. It is the main holiday week for Mexicans.

Holy Week takes place between March and April, depending on the year, and the dates vary according to the liturgical calendar. Mérida, like many cities and towns in Mexico, commemorates the Passion, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ, with impressive theatrical performances. While only Thursday and Friday are public holidays, the days before are often taken off by Mexicans. This is the main holiday week, the big cities are empty, the seaside resorts are full.
