Good to know when visiting le Tōhoku
Timetable
Opening times vary from establishment to establishment, but most museums and parks are open between 10am and 5pm. Weekends are often busier, especially for temporary exhibitions. Each venue has its own closing day, so check in advance. As for temples and shrines, they generally open at 8am and close around 4 or 5pm, except during festivals when opening times may be extended.
To be booked
For the time being, Tōhoku remains away from mass tourism, which means that museums and cultural sites can generally be visited without prior reservation. However, in the case of a highly anticipated temporary exhibition, it's best to check the institution's website or social networks for any access arrangements.
Smokers
Smoking is banned in the vast majority of public places.
Tourist traps
In museums, small boutiques or workshops, " do it yourself " is all the rage: kokeshi painting, paper making, wooden objects... Some activities are really worth the detour to discover Japanese craftsmanship in a different way. Others, on the other hand, may be a little expensive for the experience they offer. It's up to you to judge according to your desires and budget.

Yet behind these familiar images, the Archipelago reveals little-known territories with strong identities. Tōhoku, a vast region in northern Honshu, is one of the finest examples. Forested mountains, unspoilt villages, hot springs and ancestral festivals: here, tradition is lived daily, to the rhythm of the seasons. Harsh winters strengthen bonds, while summer festivities bring crowds together. Struck by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Tōhoku also embodies resilience. Today, the region offers travelers a sincere and serene face of the country, far from the clichés. To explore Tōhoku is to discover a cheerful, authentic and welcoming Japan.
