Practically all year long, Burmese Buddhist families are invited or organize themselves the "Shin Pyu" of a son, a cousin, a niece. These festivals, which celebrate the initiation into Buddhism, last for several days and are one of the most important moments in the lives of Burmese Buddhists. Long processions go through the cities and villages where the future little monks dressed and made up in the manner of the princes of the past are enthroned on carriages, horses or sometimes even elephants.
