Every year, the "Peuples et Musiques au Cinéma" festival celebrates the cultural richness of peoples through cinema, with screenings of fiction and documentary films featuring community music. Held at the Cinémathèque de Toulouse, the event also includes musical events, stands, debates and concerts in the heart of the Pink City.

What to expect from the 25ᵉ edition of the festival?

We continue to consolidate our strategy of bringing together events concerning the cultures of the world's peoples. An exceptional event this year will be our support for the tribute paid, by her relatives and numerous Toulouse artists, to Françoise Chapuis, Rita Macedo's duettist in the Femmouzes T. group, who died last year.

Our Rio Loco program will focus on the musical and dance traditions of Calabria, Andalusia, Andalusian Morocco, Turkey and a cross-Mediterranean journey. We will also be welcoming a delegation of musicians from Estonia, from the Setos ethnic group, who will present and comment on a film/montage of three documentaries on their traditional musical practices.

Another not-to-be-missed experience: the continuous screening of the five episodes of La Seria, all in Occitan (with French subtitles). And let's not forget our new discoveries: hip-hop in Quebec in the early 2000s; the rebroadcast of our film on the music of the Osages, the native people with whom Montauban's Ok-OC association has been trading for over thirty years, and whom Scorsese featured last year (Killers of the Flower Moon); a short but exceptional meeting with Danyèl Waro, who will present Fier bâtard, the latest film on his work and traditional music from Reunion Island.

All films are followed by conversations (not debates!) with specialized ethnomusicologists, people from the peoples or countries concerned, musicians, documentary filmmakers, anthropologists, and... you. For the rest, bar, catering, entertainment and bookshop, as every year.

In addition, free events open to all will take place every afternoon from Friday to Sunday, featuring dance, music and song from linguistic and cultural associations in Toulouse and the surrounding area, helping to make the courtyard of the Cinémathèque a vibrant cultural hub.
