The town of Dinard boasts the house and tomb of Judith Gautier, woman of letters and eldest daughter of the great Théophile Gautier.
daughter of the great Théophile Gautier. However, Judith was not only the daughter of the famous
recognized pioneer in the translation of Chinese poets, she was also, and perhaps above all,
who championed Wagner's cause from the controversial debates of the 1860s to his consecration
decades later.
The Jeux de vagues festival pays tribute to Judith Gautier, an illustrious Dinard native, orientalist and woman
woman involved in intellectual and musical life between 1860 and 1914, at a key moment in the history of music
when most French composers were under the marked influence of the master of Bayreuth
Bayreuth, while others preferred to cultivate their own language.
