Practical information : Sightseeing Cuba
Timetable
Museums and cultural institutes in Havana, Santiago de Cuba and other major Cuban cities are generally open from 9:00 a.m. and close around 5:00 p.m., or even a little later, depending on the establishment. Natural and urban sites are accessible at all hours.
To be booked
It is mainly to participate in guided tours (museums, neighborhoods, natural areas, etc.) that it is necessary to make a reservation in advance.
Budget & Tips
In general, monuments, remarkable houses and museums are freely accessible, and when they are not, you will be charged between 1 and 10 € maximum. Unfortunately, there is no cultural pass allowing access to Cuban museums and cultural sites, not even in Havana. However, some local agencies offer tours combining the visit of several sites. As for the price, it all depends on the distance covered during your excursion. It is often the transportation that costs money in Cuba. For a full day with a private cab, count around 60 € for the cab alone.
Main events
If there is a country that naturally comes to mind when we think of partying, Cuba is in the lead. There are many events in the country throughout the year. Whether in Havana or Santiago de Cuba, on the coasts or inland, Cuba likes to dance to the lively sound of orchestras. In addition to musical celebrations (Havana Jazz Festival or Santiago de Cuba Sound Festival) and other carnivals (Havana, Santiago, Holguin...), film-oriented festivals (Festival of New French Cinema, Alternative Cinema, South American Cinema...) and cultural events in general (Havana Book Festival, Ibero-American Culture Festival), as well as national events commemorating historical episodes, are held regularly, mainly in the capital
Guided tours
In Cuba, if some guided tours are offered in museums and cultural centers (cigar factories in particular), the vast majority allow you to discover cities and villages but also natural treasures: bays, protected areas, coasts, islands, fields of crops, etc.
Smokers
Smoking is generally prohibited in museums and other cultural institutions. As for outdoor and natural spaces, it is the responsibility of smokers not to disturb non-smokers and to leave the spaces clean. If Cubans smoke, and cigar rather than cigarette, it is an activity related to a celebration or a moment of relaxation. So, outside of bars, terraces, beaches and other places of entertainment, you won't see that many people smoking.
