Rio was born in the 1960s. History has remembered the charismatic founder of this cinema, Nick Kechichian. His real first name was Antranig, a tailor of Armenian origin, he had a house built at 178 rue Sous-les-Vignes, which became Le Rio. It is a modest cinema where the great classics of auteur cinema are shown. Rio is still fighting for a different and authentic cinema, whose sole objective is not only profitability but also culture. The Capitole's programming appeals to moviegoers because it is one of the few to offer films in their original version as well as films d'auteurs.
