THE VERDON REGIONAL NATURE PARK
Read moreLa Bastide de Valx is the flagship of the park, as it provides you with numerous books and information sheets. With its 1,000 km of hiking trails (including the famous Blanc-Martel trail), the landscape of the Verdon Regional Nature Park opens up like a picture book in a tormented relief, and tells 250 million years of geological history. The Verdon River, the backbone of the territory, has shaped its identity. The deep cuts of the Grand Canyon rub shoulders with the fullness of the Sainte-Croix and Esparron lakes and the vast lavender plateaus of the Pays de Valensole as well as the hills of the Haut-Var. Five artificial reservoirs, the lakes of Castillon, Chaudane, Sainte-Croix, Quinson and Esparron de Verdon, contribute to the beauty of this land. Visit its beautiful website, an almost inexhaustible source of information and images of splendid landscapes that will give you, no doubt, the desire to go there to admire these unique territories and so rich naturally, with your own eyes! And for the lovers of preserved nature, let's remember that they will be able to observe or to be next to a third of the French flora, so much its floristic wealth is unique. And the richness of its fauna is not in rest. The Great Bustard, the Griffon Vulture, the Ocellated Lizard (the largest in Europe) and 22 species of bats (out of the 32 listed in France) are an example of the animal diversity present.

WORKSHOP LALLIER
Read moreA faience manufacturer for three generations, this factory has been labelled a living heritage company (EPV), a state label, for the excellence of French know-how. The visit of the workshops allows to follow the complete manufacturing cycle. The initial mixture is made from raw quarry clays. It is then presented in the form of a coloured earthenware paste. In the modelling workshop, the parts are moulded one by one. They are then unmoulded, dried and deburred. The baking, known as biscuit baking, is carried out in an oven at 1,020°C. At the exit of the oven, the earthenware biscuit is glazed. The decoration is entirely hand painted, piece by piece. The second firing, called enamel firing, at 980°C, develops the brightness of the enamel and colours.

Tradition demands that women wishing to have a child should go up to the chapel with an egg in each hand during a first pilgrimage (Easter Monday), swallow one and burry another on the site. Their wish was granted if during the second pilgrimage (September 8), they found the second egg intact where they had buried it!

BOTANICAL TRAIL
Read moreThe botanical path of Esparron, created in 1990, forms a loop of about 6 km, with 204 m of difference in altitude. From the south of the village, it joins the entrance of the gorges of Bas Verdon through wooded hillsides, then returns to Esparron following the banks of the lake. It is marked by yellow lines on the trees or rocks. Take the time (2 to 3 hours) to admire the biodiversity of its vegetation through about fifteen stops with didactic panels that will describe the plants encountered. Be careful with the cliffs. This trail should be avoided in hot weather.
