Like Moroccans, we like to start the day by eating out. So there are hours when the bread masters do not empty. Very complete breakfast formulas offer an assortment of freshly baked pastries. A bakery above all, yes, but also a delicatessen, sandwiches and other savoury compositions, on the spot or to take away. This French bakery has become a "master" in the field and is an excellent address when you're feeling a little peckish.

Located on the ground floor of the famous Terrace of Spices, this sign has set itself a challenge: to make this address one of Marrakech's references in terms of small sweets. The workshop, with its bay windows, allows you to see the preparation of the delicious pastries, made from real home-made marzipan. Shortbread, chocolate pastilla or classic gazelle horns, to be eaten on the spot on a small wooden bench or to take away.

We discover at the very famous Madame Halami's all the flavours and subtleties of Moroccan pastry, undoubtedly one of the best addresses in Marrakech. Gazelle horns are crunchy and soft as you wish and it is not the only delicacy for which we succumb. We do not hesitate to taste homemade creations such as feqqas with fresh cream and delicate aniseed, ideal at tea time. Al-Jawda also offers delicious fresh juices and catering services. A gourmet break just the way we like it.

Open for 30 years, Matisse is well known by the people of Tangier in search of pastries and pastries. The pure butter croissants have nothing to envy to the croissants made in France. It must be said that Najib the pastry chef (married to a French woman who runs the store) has done some training at Lenôtre and Fauchon. He was one of the first to offer French pastries in Tangier. You'll also find strawberries, black forests, homemade ice cream without additives and excellent mochas. Miniature savory platter with quiches and pizzas.

This winery produces Epicuria and Volubilia wines, which are featured on the menus of top Moroccan restaurants. The French people who run this estate have a long family experience of wine in France and develop quality vintages here. Here, you can enjoy reds, grays, whites and rosés accompanied by the estate's own olive oil and Moroccan goat's cheese. The setting is splendid: amidst the vines are an early 20th-century building, a permaculture laboratory garden and a Roman-inspired aromatic garden.

DOMAINE DU VAL D'ARGAN

Winery

Charles Mélia established his vineyards near Essaouira in 1994. As a winegrower in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, he realized that Rhone grape varieties lent themselves perfectly to the local terroir. That's how, 30 years and 52 hectares later, Val d'Argan produces 200,000 bottles a year and blends 13 different grape varieties, from ugni blanc to clairette; from muscat noir to syrah, not forgetting mourvèdre. The estate is the only one of its kind in the region, as the vines are grown closer to Meknes, and the only organic vineyard in the whole country.

AL FADL

Patisserie

In the heart of Guéliz, and very close to the Turkish mosque, Al Fadl offers a refined pastry shop. You will obviously find a multitude of varieties of Moroccan cakes covered with honey and almonds and other gazelle horns, but also, if you feel the need, pastries (chocolatines and croissants) and French-style desserts. A little less convinced by the ice creams, we nevertheless recommend this establishment as a sure value. A mini outdoor terrace allows you to make a quick and greedy stop.
