Just 15 km from Dreux and Houdan, Anet is best known for its château, designed by Philibert Delorme under Henry II, and home to the funeral chapel of Diane de Poitiers. Today, only the left wing of this quadrilateral castle remains. For the record, in 1804, a purchaser blew up the central body and the right wing. Don't miss the portico of the main building, topped by a stag and dogs. Originally, this was an automaton: the stag moved its head and the dogs their left hind leg to mark the hours. Unfortunately, it was melted down during the French Revolution.
