Located at the extreme south of the Department of Cher, Châteaumeillant touches the departments of Allier, Creuse, and Indre. The main characteristic of the city is its seniority of over 2000 years, which is not so common in Berry. The most remarkable vestige of the Gallic city is undoubtedly the rampart of land surrounding an area of 18 hectares, described by Julius César 'Murus Gallicus'.The marriage between Châteaumeillant and the vineyard is an old story! 1951: First wine fair in Châteaumeillant, the beginning of a beautiful adventure… 1967: obtaining medals at the Paris Agricultural Contest. At the end of the twentieth century, the castelamp vineyard was restructured. This 90 hectare vineyard planted on silica-dominated silica lands - of eruptive origin - extends over the municipalities of Châteaumeillant, Saint Maur, Reigny, Vesdun, in the Cher, Champillet, Urciers and Feusines, in the Indre department. Châteaumeillant produces red and rosé wines from Gamay grape varieties, pinot noir and pinot gray which perfectly accompany roasts, poultry, gigs and all cheeses. As an aperitif, he happily associates himself with syrups, ripe and cassis. For its part, gray wine has made the glory of the castelamp region. It still holds a prominent place in local production, while white wine, in country wine, acquires a deserved reputation.
