Chief town of the peninsula, Sarzeau offers some houses with beautiful facades of the 17th and 18th centuries, in addition to beautiful beaches and the castle of Suscinio. At first a town of merchants and craftsmen, Sarzeau became a community represented at the States of Brittany; it was then the seat of the States until the Revolution. Here settled lawyers, solicitors, notaries and officers of justice. Legend has it that the famous bathtub of the revolutionary Marat, in which Charlotte de Corday was found, somehow ended up in the presbytery before being sold by the priest to a collector who donated it to the Musée Grévin
