In 1664, Colbert obtained from Louis XIV the authorization to create the East India Company to profit from the spice trade. In 1666, the Company settled under the protection of the citadel of Port-Louis. The port of Lorient is named after a ship from the Faouëdic shipyards, Soleil d'Orient. An active port city and a protected naval arsenal at the bottom of its harbour, Lorient has an economic life turned towards the sea:3rd French fishing port,1st commercial port of Brittany, major military port, ocean racing centre and a good level yachting harbour. In addition, every August, the town hosts the Inter-Celtic Festival.
