Hennebont has always been a place of passage. Its name comes from Hen Pont, meaning old bridge. The town grew up around the coastal river Blavet, and today extends far and wide on both banks. The town boasts a number of interesting historical remains: the castle, the ramparts, the walled town, the Broërec'h tower museum, the towpath, the Forges eco-museum, as well as houses and private mansions... A visit to the National Stud, established in 1857, will take you back to the 19th century, when Hennebont was the capital of the Breton horse.
