Situated to the west of Vannes and nestled in the hollow of the Gulf of Morbihan, the commune of Arradon takes its name from the Celtic Aradunum, literally "Ara's Hill". Once primarily agricultural, the town began to take advantage of its seaside location at the end of the 19th century, with the start of oyster farming. Ideally situated on a coastline dotted with coves and rias, between land and sea, Arradon is very popular with yachtsmen and other water sports enthusiasts. The sailing school offers year-round courses and workshops for all ages and levels, enabling you to discover catamarans, dinghies and windsurfing.A seaside town par excellence, Arradon boasts 15 km of coastal paths (many of which are on the GR® 34). Its pretty marina is perfect for a stroll in any season, all the way to the Pointe d'Arradon, classified as a remarkable site, where you can admire century-old oak trees and watch the sailboats. Arradon's beaches - Kerbilouët, Penboc'h and La Carrière - are sheltered from the wind and offer views of Île-aux-Moines, Île d'Arz, Île Holavre and the Logoden islands, making it a popular summer destination for holidaymakers. Stand-up paddle enthusiasts will appreciate the clear, calm waters of the bays, where they can navigate between anchored boats and along the small cliffs. The village of Arradon is not lacking in charm either, with its Notre-Dame chapel, known as "du Bourg", where exhibitions are held regularly. The market is held on Place de l'Eglise and Rue des Frères Mithouard every Tuesday and Friday morning. The commune is the venue for numerous summer events, including the Fête du Moustoir (a traditional Breton festival with a costume parade and fest-noz), the Fête de l'huître (organized as part of a twinning arrangement with the German town of Höchenschwand and featuring oysters... and beer!), and the Algues au Rythme festival of solidarity and commitment, which enlivens the streets with world music and circus arts. Arradon is also host to a number of sporting events: the town is on the route of the Auray-Vannes half-marathon, which attracts over 5,000 professional and amateur runners every year on the second Sunday in September. In March, runners of all ages take to the coastal paths for the 30 km of Arradon.
