Val Couesnon was born of the merger of Antrain, La Fontenelle, Saint-Ouen-la-Rouërie and Tremblay in 2019. Built at the confluence of the Loysance and Couesnon rivers, Antrain played an important economic role until the 1920s, with its markets and fairs attracting large crowds. This is much less the case today. Highlights of the new commune (population 4,000) include the 11th-century Romanesque church and its southern gateway, known as the "Porte des Femmes", the Loysance quarter with its washhouse, the An II fountain, the ruelle des Bras-de-l'Enfer, where blacksmiths used to beat iron, and the Oratoire de Neuglé.
