Situated on the banks of the Rance, and close to Saint-Malo, it was in the 16th century that the first Jouannais sailors set sail for Newfoundland to fish for cod on board their schooners. On this occasion, at the end of each August, the "Fête des Doris de cale en cale" takes place to celebrate this maritime heritage. Market gardening and fishing were once the main activities of this commune. Today, Saint-Jouan-des-Guérêts offers beautiful panoramas on the Rance and has three islands: l'île-aux-Moines, l'île Harteau and l'île du Chevret, as well as many manor houses and malouinières typical of the region
