MARCHÉ DES LICES

Market
4.9/5
7 reviews

France's second-largest market celebrates its 400th anniversary in 2022. Our smart tip: start your visit at the lower end of Place des Lices to stock up on fruit and vegetables, then head for the West Hall, where you'll find artisanal pasta and butchers. Then stop by the food trucks for the inevitable galette saucisse. Head for the East Hall, with its bakers, honey, jam and herbal tea producers. Visit the fish market, stop off at the coffee roaster before strolling through the flower market. An unmissable concentration of local produce!

DURAND CHOCOLATIER

Closed - Open to 09h00

Since 1987, Durand Chocolatier has been making numbered chocolates with unchanging recipes that are secretly kept. In its Empire style attire and cocoa decor, the shop is not lacking in style! The first thing you'll notice is the 41 little squares placed behind the counter. All of them compete in quality and finesse, such as the "Compagnie des Indes" (n° 35) whose woody spice alliance is striking. The n° 36, with seaweed, is the most oceanic of all. We also discover the famous cake inspired by the Breton poisoner Hélène Jégado.

LA TRINITAINE

Regional groceries
5/5
1 review

Trinitaine is the perfect place to find the small Breton sweetness to offer or a souvenir of the region. This boutique has everything you can dream of and that makes us saliver in the area of Breton products. The address, which has been in place for many years between the central Halles and the Colombier Center, offers an enormous choice of products from the Breton region and the sea, the latter being the specialty of this chain which, after the beginnings of the first store, was founded in Brittany in 1955, from where it has its name. In the grocery store, you will find proven - and approved - products by many consumers: cotriade, sardines prepared according to dozens of recipes (notably to whisky Breton and algae), mackerel, sea terrines, crustacean mosses… There is also a spaceship radius, with Quimper's earthenware, utensils to prepare themselves pancakes and cakes, and traditional Breton bowls on the first name of their owner. The tasting baskets make ideal gift ideas before picking up the train for Montparnasse. And to accompany all this, boxes with the Breton craft beers, and in addition to the cigars and vitrean pommeons, a selection of liqueurs with berries, the Strawgastel strawberries, and the inevitable chouchen! A very good choice of handicraft products, well developed in this pleasant boutique in which tourists and Bretons come to delight with authentic specialties. Salidou, cakes, madeleines, jams, pallets, kouign amann, niniches…

YVAN CHEVALIER

Chocolatier
5/5
1 review

After working in the Nantes region for more than ten years, Yvan Chevalier, Meilleur Ouvrier de France chocolatier-confiseur since 2019, set up shop in the Breton capital in 2021. A return to his roots for the artisan, and yet another opportunity for us to come and taste his creations. The chocolate boxes offer a palette of old-fashioned pralines and subtle ganaches. It's also easy to fall for the chocolate-covered Madagascar vanilla marshmallow bears. We finish with a divinely balanced pastry. We're particularly fond of the signature chou, which changes with the seasons: light, low in sugar and very gourmet. Discover it on site or order online!

After his stores in Paimpol and Vannes, Christophe Lemaire has moved to Rennes in 2021. The boutique offers 85 peppers and berries, 55 spices, 15 fragrant curries and 35 blends ground, roasted and carefully assembled in the Paimpol lab. Not to be missed: vadouvan (a rare Indian curry whose secret is kept by less than 10 families in India). The boutique is a veritable ode to the senses, and a testament to the desire to share quality at low prices. A word of advice: follow the delicious recipes on their website!

SUPER U RENNES FOUGÈRES

Hypermarket

This address is convenient in the neighbourhood and even allows you to buy a picnic at the Parc park. It is true that the atmosphere of the neighborhood creates a pleasant atmosphere within the hotel, far from the rush of the big areas. The award offers a significant novelty since July 2011: an interesting drive system because the customer can withdraw his products only 4 hours after ordering them on the Internet, among all 12 000 items in the store! Also note the home delivery service. Two other good points: the creation of quality ranges at attractive prices (organic, world products and hygiene) and the development of its sustainable commitments.
