Renovated restaurant in Rennes offering a menu of French and local gastronomy.
This mythical Rennes restaurant is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year! It is said to be the oldest brasserie in the city... Perhaps you should ask Brigitte Bardot, Renaud or the late Romy Schneider, who - among other celebrities - frequented this establishment. Once past the thick red velvet curtain that marks the entrance to this cheerful and lively setting, we are transported on a journey that is both spatial (hello, Paris) and temporal (the place has changed little since 1936!). The house uniform (bow ties for gentlemen, white shirt and red apron), the soft benches, the gilding and woodwork give La Chope a unique atmosphere. The place was renovated in 2021: new lighting, new paintings... Without losing its cachet! The menu features French and local gastronomy: roasted cod in a parsley crust, mussels with smoked bacon, supreme yellow chicken from Janzé with piperade and potato croquettes with comté cheese, roasted pineapple with salted butter caramel... While waiting for your meal, you can look at the enamel advertising plaques (as retro as you like), the caricatures of the team that look like they came from Montmartre (made for the 80th anniversary of the bistro) or the drinking slogans painted on the wall since 1947. In the two rooms (mosaics on the ground floor, wooden floor on the first floor), the meal unfolds pleasantly in the company of Brassens or Edith Piaf. Not forgetting the final words, spotted on one of the walls: "A good wine from a meal makes a feast".
